Description of the Product

Although the dreamcatcher is associated with Native American culture in general, they are believed to have originated from the Ojibwe tribe in particular. Their word for dreamcatcher means "spider," referring to the woven web loosely covering the hoop. They considered spiders as symbols of protection and comfort, and according to legend a mystical and maternal "Spider Woman" once served as the spiritual protector for the tribe. As the children grew, it was difficult for The Spider Woman to continue to protect them as they moved far away, and so she created the dreamcatcher. Over the course of generations mothers and grandmothers continued the tradition. Dreamcatchers were traditionally used as talismans to protect sleeping people, usually children, from nightmares. Good dreams pass through and gently slide down the feathers to comfort the sleeper below. Bad dreams, however, are caught up in its protective net and destroyed, burned up in the light of day.
