Description of the Product
The spear is one of the oldest and most important of all hand weapons. Despite the adulation and reverence given to the sword, the spear was more often the weapon of choice for example of the Vikings. Used as throwing weapons and as pikes, spears were an indispensable part of their daily lives, as they were much less costly to produce than swords. The Celts, as well as the Vikings, used this type of spear not for throwing, but as an effective cutting weapon. Similar spearheads were also used by the Zulu; their longer throwing spears were called assegai, and later the shorter spear called iklwa. Zulu spears were a major factor in the Zulu War, and gave the Zulu a famous victory over the British Empire in 1879.
A hewing spear is a spear that would thrust effectively, and yet have the power to cut decisively. The spearhead has holes pre-drilled into the socket ready to help you secure it onto a wooden shaft of your choice. Delivery does not include a shaft.
