Description of the Product

Millions have grown up with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings since the 1950’s. The classic epic is considered by many to be the greatest fantasy tale ever told. The story is one of the struggle between good and evil, but also of the role small ordinary folk can play in changing the world. The book trilogy was named the most popular book of the 20th Century, and Peter Jacksons feature film trilogy has won awards, as well as a legendary status of its own, since coming out in 2001-2003. The Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings, the book having been published in 1937, and the movie trilogy having come out 2012-2014. The movies brought Middle-earth to life in stunning and faithful detail, giving that world an unimaginable authenticity, which is a major part of why the movies are still so beloved. We are thrilled to be able to bring you the swords and other weapons from these films. They may not be forged by high elves in Gondolin, or Weta Workshop in New Zealand, but they are officially licensed and meticulously crafted by United Cutlery, so that you too can own a piece of the magic.

The War of the Last Alliance was fought at the end of the Second Age. Morgoth’s greatest servant Sauron hated the Men of Númenór, especially Elendil, and schemed to bring about the Downfall of Númenór. When the island sank into the waves, some Faithfuls, led by Elendil, were able to escape to Middle-earth where they established two realms, Arnor and Gondor. They brought with them to Middle-earth among other heirlooms Narsil, a sword forged in the depths of time by the great Dwarven-smith Telchar. Narsil, meaning red and white flame, shines with the light of the Sun and the Moon, enemies of darkness.

After the Fall Sauron’s diminished spirit too was able to escape to Middle-earth, to Mordor. When Sauron and the Númenóreans realized that the other had not in fact perished in the Fall as thought, a war broke out. The Men of Númenór, led by Elendil, were joined by Gil-galad, the High King of the Noldor, noblest of all Elves. Gil-galad and Elendil created the Last Alliance of Elves and Men in order to defeat the evil of Sauron and his legions of orcs. The Alliance eventually marched on Mordor, but they were not joined by the Men of the Mountains, who broke their oath and refused to fight, and were thus cursed by Isildur.

The army of the Last Alliance won the Battle of Dagorlad in front of the Black Gates, and pushed into Mordor, Elendil carrying Narsil in battle. On the slopes of Mount Doom both Gil-galad and Elendil were slain, and Narsil was broken. Elendil’s son Isildur managed to use a shard of the sword to cut off the One Ring from Sauron’s hand, and so the Alliance was victorious, marking the end of the Second Age. Given the chance, Isildur failed to destroy the One Ring once and for all, and he took it, as well as the shards of Narsil as heirlooms. The Ring was soon lost in the Disaster of the Gladden Fields, but the shards were saved and kept in Rivendell for millennia. The sword would not be re-forged until the One Ring was found again.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

Eventually at the end of the Third Age the shards of Narsil were passed down to Aragorn, heir of Isildur, and the Sword That Was Broken was reforged as Andúril, the Flame of the West.

These miniature shards of Narsil are a must for any Lord of the Rings collection. This beautiful collectible is a detailed replica of the stone statue from Rivendell that holds the shield containing the shards of Narsil. The 1:5 scale figure of the Elven Princess is made of cold cast, hand-painted polyresin and the shards can be removed individually. Bring a piece of Middle-earth into your home with this collectible figurine!
