Description of the Product

In medieval times only young girls and unmarried women were allowed to show themselves without any headdress; older and married women wore coifs, not only outside but indoors as well. Headdress was regarded as a social symbol but it had some practical benefits as well as, for instance protecting the wearer´s hair against dirt. The coifs like these were very common in the Middle Ages and they were used on their own or as a kind of underwear under the more formal and expensive headdresses. Even nowadays coifs are an inherent part of many traditional costumes.

Please note that all coifs now have lining that matches the outer fabric. Some product photos still show the green coif with a natural white lining — this was from an earlier version. The updated design now has green lining, so the entire coif is the same color.

  Super impressed! I'll admit I'm no historian, but the cloak I purchased was both fashionable and practical!
