Description of the Product

Millions have grown up with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings since the 1950โ€™s. The classic epic is considered by many to be the greatest fantasy tale ever told. The story is one of the struggle between good and evil, but also of the role small ordinary folk can play in changing the world. The book trilogy was named the most popular book of the 20th Century, and Peter Jacksons feature film trilogy has won awards, as well as a legendary status of its own, since coming out in 2001-2003. The Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings, the book having been published in 1937, and the movie trilogy having come out 2012-2014. The movies brought Middle-earth to life in stunning and faithful detail, giving that world an unimaginable authenticity, which is a major part of why the movies are still so beloved. We are thrilled to be able to bring you the swords and other weapons from these films. They may not be forged by high elves in Gondolin, or Weta Workshop in New Zealand, but they are officially licensed and meticulously crafted by United Cutlery, so that you too can own a piece of the magic.

Mirkwood, greatest of the forests of the Northern world, was formerly known asย Greenwood the Great. After the end of the War of the Last Alliance, in which Sauron lost the One Ring, his spirit moved into the fortress of Dol Guldur, in the southern part of the forest. From then onwards the forest was no longer safe and it received its new name Mirkwood. In the northern part of the forest live the Silvan or Wood Elves, ruled by their king Thranduil and his son Legolas. Thranduilโ€™s father had established the Woodland Realm in the Second Age. He was not a Silvan Elf, but Sindar or Gray Elf. At the end of the Second Age Thranduil and his father, together with great many Silvan Elves, took part in the War of the Last Alliance against Sauron with the High Elves and the Men of Nรบmerรณr. The Silvan Elves were not as highly armed as the High Elves and the Men were, and also did not fully accept Gil-galadโ€™s leadership, and as a result the king and the majority of their number perished. Thranduil retreated back to Mirkwood with the remains of his people where he remained until the Battle of the Five Armies, almost an Age later. During the events of the Hobbit the quest of the Dwarves to reclaim their Kingdom of Erebor finally pushed the Woodland Elves out of their realm and into being a part of the world again, albeit driven mainly by greed for the hoard of Smaug the Dragon. The Mirkwood Elven Army is on the brink of warring with the Dwarwes of Erebor, but the arrival of a common enemy, orcs, pushed them to fight together.

The sword of the Elven king Thranduil has an elegant and deadly Silvan design, with a two-handed grip and a blade forged of stainless steel, ornately engraved with flowing vine and leaf Elven designs. It was one of two twin swords crafted for him by the finest smiths of the Woodland Realm. This officially licensed and superb quality reproduction sword is an exact replica of the sword that appears in the The Hobbit - The Desolation of Smaug. Each collectible is precisely replicated from the actual film props. Close attention to detail was a top priority to make these replicas as accurate as possible. This beautiful United Cutlery replica features cast metal hilt and a stainless steel blade. The stainless steel blade is easy to care for, and the sword is ideal as a decoration, as part of a costume, and as a collectible. The material is not suitable for fencing or cutting practice. This item includes a matching wooden display plaque with an elven design, and a certificate of authenticity.
