Description of the Product

This single-action military revolver is also known as SAA (Single Action Army), Colt M1873, Peacemaker Widowmaker, Frontier and Equalizer. The Peacemaker is a six-shooter, meaning it has a revolving cylinder which holds six cartridges. When the hammer is drawn to full cock, the cylinder rotates and places the next bullet into place between the barrel and the hammer. After each shot, the hammer must be manually cocked before firing again.

This revolver was designed by Samuel Colt in 1872, and the U.S. military adopted the pistol as standard issue in 1873. Although the revolver was designed to serve in U.S. military use, a large number of American civilians acquired their own within a few years. The gun was carried by ranchers, law enforcement and outlaws alike, and quickly became a Wild West classic. Because this revolver used ammunition of the same caliber as the Winchester rifle, the two grew in popularity together.

The Peacemaker eventually rose to its current popularity after the film industry took to it. Millions saw this mystified revolver dispense justice in the hands of John Wayne and Gary Cooper. The popularity of the revolver was so great that even Roosevelt wanted his own and Patton carried two Peacemakers with him.

This popular single-action military revolver has since been available in more than 30 different versions with different barrels and calibers. The different versions are externally, in general, very similar. The 7,5inch barrel version is the original “Cavalry” model.

The barrel and cylinder are blackened and the handle is also black so it matches. The body of the weapon is gunmetal, or red brass, colored. Red brass, a type of bronze, was commonly used in the 19th century to make weapons, which is how it came to be commonly called gunmetal.
